About Carissa
Carissa Noelle Crossan was born in Whitetop, Virginia on December 2, 2000. For being only 13 years-old she is the most courageous and outgoing young lady you will ever meet. From her glowing personality to her witty sense of humor Carissa is an extraordinary little girl. Carissa moved from Virginia to Spring Hill, Florida when she was 4 years-old and then to Lindenhurst, New York when she was 10. Moving three times and having such a bubbly personality has given Carissa the opportunity to make all sorts of special connections. Carissa enjoys hanging out with her friends, playing softball, going to the beach, and spending time with her family.
Carissa is the definition of strong and positive, after dealing with her fathers disability from falling off of a roof as a carpenter and breaking his back and her mother not being able to work since Carissa's diagnosis she remains positive and still keeps her head held high. Being so optimistic all the time has helped Carissa still see the bright side of things - like perfect hair days everyday with her new wig. Carissa is a talented, fun-loving, caring, and intelligent girl, and nothing can or will stop her.
While she does have health insurance her family is not sure where it is going to cap. Carissa is looking at at least a year of treatment: chemo, surgery and radiation. Anything you could give would help them immensely.
What is Ewing's Sarcoma?
Ewing's sarcoma is a rare form of cancer commonly found in the bone or in soft tissue. The most common areas in which it occurs are the pelvis, the femur, the humerus, the ribs and clavicle collar bone. Ewing's sarcoma occurs most frequently in children and young adults. Almost all patients diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma require multidrug chemotherapy as well as local surgery and/or radiation. Treatment lengths vary depending on location and stage of the disease at diagnosis.
