Hello!
My name is Stacey Phelps and I am currently completing a degree in Civil Engineering at Hudson valley Community College. I am extremely excited to share that I recently was nominated and invited to participate in the International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation on Engineering and Technology.
Although the number of female engineers today has greatly improved since the early 1980s, when only 5.8% of engineers in the U.S. were women, it’s still surprisingly low. Currently, only 14% of engineers are women, according to the Congressional Joint Economic Committee
I have been studying and working in the Engineering field for three years and believe that through this experience I will be able to better understand a multitude of aspects regarding the engineering field not privy to me in the United States. Such as the convergence of art, engineering, and technology behind the world’s fastest boats housed in Aukland. As well as the engineering models utilized for natural disaster planning and response in Christchurch and Lyttelton harbor. It is my hope to absorb this instrumental information and to take it with me back to the United States to utilize here, at home, for the greater good.
The total cost to participate in this program is $6,939. I am currently seeking sponsorships so that I may be able to attend and partake in this amazing experience. I am hoping that your company may consider sponsoring my educational journey. Any amount that you would be willing to contribute to make this experience possible would be greatly appreciated.
