Hey, I'm Marie Wilson, an Australian singer songwriter on a mission to raise funds and awareness for MS Research both here in Australia and around the world.
Since the beginning of this year, I have been writing a song where the lyrics have been crowdsourced by those living with or touched by Multiple Sclerosis. The response has been amazing and at times, overwhelming. With thousands of honest and touching comments, words and stories being shared the song has evolved over this period of time. Each video update I have released has brought about a new group of people all going through their own unique journey.
As the song is now in its final stages of being written, my aim is to have the song professionally recorded by my long time producer 'Joe Hardy' (who has also produced ZZTop, Tom Cochrane, Steve Earle - just to name a few). I anticipate the recording costs to come to approximately $5,000 AUD.
100% of all download sales of the Song for MS will be donated to MS Research Australia to help find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. If we exceed the target, any additional funds will be donated directly to MS Research Australia.
The initial inspiration for writing this song was that two of my dearest friends (who happen to be twins) have been diagnosed with MS. Although diagnosed almost 15 years apart, they support each other and are inseparable. After speaking with the two of them, I realised how courageous they were and how little I actually knew about MS. They have always been great friends to me and have supported my music and now it was my turn to do something to help support them.
I believe songwriting can save people's lives. It saved mine, and being a part of the songwriting process can be quite therapeutic. Not everyone is musical or can sing, but everyone has something to say and this song, I hope, has provided an opportunity for those living with or touched by MS to have their say.
