It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Sofia Long. This news comes as an unexpected shock to the 9-1-1 family that knew her.
Sofia’s joy, insight, and leadership made her a very special part of the 9-1-1 Branch. Sofia started with our office in 2006 as a Public Safety Answering Point Advisor, was promoted in 2010 to a Telecommunications System Analyst II, spent a little over a year in the Project Management Unit of Public Safety Communications in 2014 as a Telecommunications Systems Manager I, and was excitedly welcomed back to the 9-1-1 Branch in mid-2015 when she was promoted to a Telecommunications System Manager II and took over the lead role in the Business Management Division of the 9-1-1 Branch.
Sofia’s positive attitude, extensive state 9-1-1 experience, and solid leadership were an important part of the success of California’s 9-1-1 program. Her contributions in state service will long be remembered and demonstrate that she was a remarkable, caring person who took the time to make a difference in the lives of so many people.
It was Sofia's wish to see her sons, Clayton B Davis and Pierce R Davis, graduate from college. Sofia's family is working to support this wish, and the funds raised by this effort will act as a scholarship to assist Sofia's family in making this wish a reality.
We send our condolences to Sofia’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. She was a friend, collegue and mentor and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held:
