We Can at The Summit School

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nick Vance.

The guy in the picture above is Jesse Ruben, singer/song writer and founder of the We Can Project.

I'm a Junior at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland.  When I was in elementary school I dreaded being in the classroom, it was an exhausting experience. I would do just about anything to avoid the daily drain of keeping pace in what felt like a marathon.  Then one summer I went to camp at The Summit School. The counselors there seemed to understand me. I felt welcomed and at ease. My parents enrolled me at The Summit School the following year where my life began to change. They recognized my learning differences at The Summit School and gave me the tools and confidence to unlock my full potential. To learn more about The Summit School visit http://thesummitschool.org/about/.

I am now a straight A student in high school, well maybe one or two B's, and a varsity athlete. I now have the confidence and capabilities to self-advocate and succeed academically as well as socially thanks to the skills and encouragement I received while attending Summit.

I want to give back to the school that gave so much to me. My Mom and I heard Jesse Ruben sing one day and learned about his “We Can Project”, a learning initiative to inspire students to make a difference in their lives, their communities and in the world by setting goals and taking action. You can learn a little more about Jesse and the We Can Project by visiting http://www.wecanwecanwecan.com/.  I am dedicated to bringing the We Can Project to The Summit School. I know this type of program would have inspired me during my time at Summit.

Please help me bring Jesse Ruben and the We Can Project to the students and faculty at The Summit School. I need to raise $2,500 to fund Jesse’s trip to Maryland. I have one month to raise these funds so that Jesse can bring his magic to Summit in April. I believe a goal is a dream with a deadline. It is only through your generous contributions that I can reach my goal.

Thank you very much,
Nick
