Helping Deserved Skateboarders, One Skateboard at a Time!

Thank you to all who have donated to help make our skatepark more than a dream! It's about to come true.

The Matthew A. Henson Neighborhood Association (MAHNA) and the Matthew Henson Community Development Corporation (MHCDC), a 501(c)3 organization founded in 2015 with members of the MAHNA to be a catalyst for suitable and affordable housing and to stimulate economic development, is excited to announce thanks to  you we  are building our skateboard park at 1530 N Bentalou Street Baltimore, Maryland 21216!

We are now raising funds to  provide FREE skateboards and other equipment for the youth.  We are also having an OLYMPIC SKATEBOARD VIEWING PARTY ON  July 24th at 8 pm  . We need  additional funds to promote this and for the big screen projector to view it on.

The Easterwood/Sandtown community, located in the western section of Baltimore City, was the hardest hit area during the Freddie Gray unrest in 2015 – 13 BUSINESSES DAMAGED. The MAHNA and the MHCDC continue working to rebuild the community after the devastation and recently had the City of Baltimore approve of its Master Plan.

Tony Hawk nicknamed “Birdman” is a professional skateboarder and entrepreneur. Described as “hyperactive,” his parents supported his skateboarding as it served as an outlet for his excessive energy. The Tony Hawk Foundation, now The Skateboard Project, seeks to foster lasting improvements in society through the development of free, quality skateparks in low-income communities. The Skatepark Project has been helping underserved communities create safe and inclusive public skateparks for youth. The organization favors projects that have strong community involvement, grassroots fundraising, and a base of support from the skaters, parents, law enforcement, and local leaders. To date, almost 600 recipients of grants from The Skatepark Project have opened their skateparks and Baltimore’s Easterwood/Sandtown wants to be one of them.  TGF awarded MHCDC a $5,000.00 construction grant to show support of this initiative.

Won’t you help and donate skateboards for the youth of the Easterwood/Sandtown area? Your donation is not only appreciated but also an investment in the community, an investment in our youth.  Skateboards to: Matthew Henson Community Development Corporation; Dr. Marvin Cheatham; 1620 Appleton St.; Baltimore, MD 21217.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Marvin L. ‘Doc’ Cheatham, Sr.
