Sienna's Atlantis Fellowship
Hello,
My name is Sienna Reaves and I was recently accepted into the Atlantis Fellowship Project. This project affords doctor-bond students with the opportunity to travel to different countries to experience health care at its finest. It also exposes students to healthcare on a more global scale in order to broaden our knowledge and experience as a physician.
This opportunity means so much to me because in January 2013 my mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease that destroys the sheaths of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and can result in paralysis, numbness, impaired speech, and more. While there is no cure for multiple sclerosis, I am grateful that my mom has been in remission for some time. In researching her disease, I fell in love with medicine, and have since been following that passion. In doing so, I found out about the Atlantis Fellowship Project that is going to take me all the way to Viana do Castelo, Portugal to follow my dreams. I believe this program can teach me so much about not only medicine, but about people abroad. I'm so excited to enrich myself in knowledge and, maybe one day, cure multiple sclerosis for good.
Obviously, with such an amazing opportunity, there are financial expenses. My initial deposit of $800 was due by February 10, 2017 in order to have my spot made permanent. Another $3199 is due by April 1, 2017. The remaining monies will be used for travel and expenses while away. As much as I would have loved to raise funds sooner, I recently learned of the fellowship and was accepted right away.
Any donation would help me, and I appreciate anything you can contribute, be it five dollars or one-hundred.
