Shintaro

On Monday, July 17, 2017, Shintaro was critically injured in a fire. He was at home after his first day at work in Ottawa. The fire was arson.
Shintaro was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital and is currently in the Burn Unit undergoing extensive surgeries.

His surgeries will include multiple skin grafts to 15% of his body. Shintaro is under heavy sedation and is intubated to support respiratory system injuries. His family is by his side. There are significant costs associated with being him with at the hospital daily.
After surgeries and treatment, he will be going into rehabilitation to relearn how to use his hands. The same hands that he used to win two National Ultimate Frisbee Championships. Shintaro is an accomplished athlete and we know he will want to return to sports when he has healed. This will be a long journey.
Shintaro played for Toronto Triple Threat, Albany Basketball Association (ABA), who he also volunteered with and travelled to Europe. He played Ultimate Frisbee in Toronto with Toro and Grand Trunk, winning 2 National Championships and his current team in Ottawa is Shrike.
He stayed in Ottawa in order to work in the summer so he would continue to have employment during the school year as he continued his studies in Human Rights at Carleton University.
In 2015 he went to El Salvador and built chicken coups as part of a sustainability project with his church youth group.
Human Rights is also a passion of Shintaro's. He dreams of working in areas of the world where everyone doesn't have the same rights as he has enjoyed in Canada.
The beneficiary of the funds will be Shintaro's mom Peggy Tsukamoto.

Childcare for younger sibling = $300/week
Long Term Costs:
Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychologist, possible plastic surgeries, medical supplies, creams, ointments, prescriptions, educational accommodations.
