She Soars

After a very strong fight against an aggressive cancer, Agatha Gordon passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, November 29th, 2017.

Agatha, as a young, principled woman with an extraordinary goal of building a better life for herself and her children, moved from Jamaica to Canada in 1972.

Agatha loved to laugh and dance, to sing and to praise God.  Throughout her life she remained righteous and graceful, loving, high-spirited and resolutely faithful; ensuring that she was setting an example for her children, grandchildren and her friends at all times.

A dignified woman, Agatha did not complain while receiving medical treatment.  In fact, she found physical and emotional strength, endurance and spirit enough to often accompany her daughter, Jully Black, to various social engagements and fundraising events.

Seemingly shy, she surprised everyone in 2016 by  joining her daughter on stage at the Womens's College Hospital 'Women for Women's fundraiser (a life-changing conversation about women and aging, with a special focus on women as caregivers for elderly family members) to share her story of relocating from Jamaica to Canada, a story of true strength and courage.

With her time, presence, words and willpower she has left an indelible legacy of love and commitment to her family and her community.

We, the family and friends of Agatha Gordon, are now reaching out to request financial assistance to help cover the cost of funeral arrangements, family travel and to help further establish and honour her dream of building an education fund for her grandchildren.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
