Hope for Shazim

Update:
Do something wonderful this summer -- help a severely burned child return to a normal life.

The SHEA Charity is asking for your help as we gear up for Shazim's return to the USA for follow-up surgery and additional treatment.

Shazim is scheduled to returning to the US on August 8, 2016 for his second round of surgeries. Please donate to help us in our efforts to make his return a success.

Original Post:

Please help us save little Shazim Samad.

On December 19th, 6 year old Shazim suffered second and third degree burns to 40% of his body. The incident occurred when an object exploded in a heap of burning garbage next to where he was playing and consequently his clothes caught on fire.

He is currently at Georgetown Public Hospital in stable condition, but his body is severely charred. We are currently making arrangements to transfer him to the United States for treatment, but we need your help. Please open your heart this holiday season and help save this child.

Many thanks,

Lori En

About the organizer:

My is Lori En and I was contacted by Georgetown Public Hospital to assist in getting overseas treatment to help Shazim Samad, since the treatment he requires is not available in Guyana. I was contacted by the hospital because in October 2015, I was able to assist another patient to receive the same treatment in the United States and the same principels are being followed in the case of Shazim.

I do not have a personal relationship with this patient other that the fact that I am assisting in getting him the lifesaving treatment he needs. I am in constant contact with his doctors and his mother and father to expedite the process of getting him the treatment he so desperately needs.

Funds raised through this fundraiser have since paid for visa preparation, visa processing fees for both mother and child and it will pay for housing, food and transportation in the US:

Housing-  Housing has been arranged for the mother at the cost of $25 per day ($750 per month).

Meals- Meals cost is $10 per day for 3 meals through the hospital's meals program.

Transportation- The cost for one-way tickets for mom and child from Guyana is approximately $2,500, since they are a special case and need extra room on the flight. Once in the US, I have arranged for an ambulance to transport him to the hospital (Ambulance service is being provided free of charge through the hospital).

Also, one condition on his acceptance at the hospital is that they (mother and child) have temporary health insurance coverage for the time they are in the US as the hospital is only covering burn treatment- nothing else. Funds collected will pay for this insurance. I have also arranged for ground transportation to shuttle the mother back and forth as needed from her residence to the hospital.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions about this fundraise.
