Shanda’s Message “ Please hug your loved ones tight tonight - things can change quickly, when you least expect it. “
We’d like to tell you about this amazing young woman. Shanda is 38 years old and married her husband Chris 3 years ago on the beach in Cancun. Cancun Mexico took a piece of her heart many years ago and they are in love with the people and the country.
In September 2018, Shanda went to the hospital with pains in her foot and calf - She was planning on playing in a recreational softball tournament and realized there was no way she was going to be able to play. When she arrived at the hospital and had some diagnostic tests done, the Dr’s discovered that several blood clots had formed in her legs and had moved up to her heart and brain. As Dr’s worked to discover the root of these clots, the unthinkable was discovered: Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer metastasized to the lymph nodes, complicated by these blood clots and a rare heart condition.
Her condition became more serious when one of the clots travelled to her heart and caused an attack. She is recovering well after another 5 days in the hospital, surprising all the nurses and her cardiologist.
Shanda is strong and is preparing to start her treatment in this upcoming week. She is determined to fight for as long as she is given, with hopes of beating the odds that come with this type cancer by surrounding herself with the love and lives of her husband, family and friends.
It is impossible to imagine the thoughts and feelings that are going through Shanda’s mind or her family as this diagnosis becomes her reality. As friends, we feel helpless and are looking for some way that we can help Shanda as she moves through this phase of her life.
We are setting up this GoFundMe account on behalf of Shanda and her family so that her family and friends have a way of helping her through this difficult time. As she has been in the hospital with no income for almost a month, and because of the unknown journey ahead, we are hoping to ease the burden of financial obligations so she can concentrate and focus on her health challenges and living her life to the fullest during this difficult time.
Any assistance that can be provided to help ease the financial stresses over these precious months would be greatly appreciated.
