Hi, My name is Viviana Williams. I’m 16 years old and I’m currently in my sophomore year of high school. Last year, Stanford College reached out to me about their 8 week summer program for high school. For Stanford, a very selective college, to reach out to me and actually accept me into their program shows that I have potential to do something great in life. Not just proving this to friends and family, but to myself as well. In life, I aspire to a successful business owner in the fashion industry and a successful poet as well. My top choices for college are Harvard and UCLA, but maybe Stanford itself.
Why am I here now? Since this was my first time applying to a college high school program, I didn’t know much about the separate due dates for certain parts of the application. Financial aid to be exact. Thinking that financial aid was due with the whole application, I didn’t meet the deadline and wasn’t able to apply for financial aid. Therefore the cost of this program is too expensive for my father to do by himself. Living in a single parent house can be very tough when money is short and feel like things are hopeless. No matter how much I offer, my dad is very stubborn and refuses to let me use money my mother left for me after she passed away in order to help him with the high cost of this program.
Not only would you be helping me enter a program that would help me receive college credit for my future, but also help my dad with the cost of the Stanford program.
For a long time, I’ve doubted my ability to actually achieve something great even though many of my teachers and my friends have told me a million of times that I am great. With this program, I can learn from this experience and learn more how to handle myself and my insecurities. Without the help of my teacher, I wouldn’t have made it this far ( Thanks Ms. Riemens :) ).
