Help Send Tula to Broadway!

I'm Tula's very proud and supportive mom, Kim. Last summer I'd planned a surprise trip to New York City because Tula's dream is Broadway. She's a dancer who takes 4+ classes a week and on top of that she participates in theatre and studies piano. She started studying ballet at age 5 while living in Montevideo, Uruguay. After moving back to Canada, Tula joined the McDonald Wilson Dance Academy in Calgary, where she has continued to dance and expand her repertoire with jazz, tap, modern and hip hop. She has also been a member of Alberta Dance Theatre for the past three seasons.
I became very ill last June and spent most of the summer months in hospital undergoing major surgery and battling a mystery infection. I cancelled the New York trip from my hospital bed and Tula endured a summer of worry and fear; more than a ten year old should have to. She was shuffled from home to home and had a series of caregivers but always made time to visit me every single day. She was always joyful and spirited which helped me get through a very challenging, often fearful time.
Following a second surgery in mid-October I was finally on the mend, and after a few months of recovery we made our suspended 4-day trip in February! The timing couldn't have been better as Tula was able to audition for a summer intensive dance program at the prestigious studio "Steps on Broadway". A week later we received the exciting news that she was accepted and she's been invited to spend 3 weeks studying ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, theatre and more with top NYC dance instructors.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime but it comes with a cost. The tuition alone is $1900 USD (approx. $2500 CDN), flights will be about $1500, and accommodation (including food & transportation) in relatively close proximity to the studio will be at least $6000.
We've decided to use GoFundMe to raise money because, as I continue to recover, I'm on an extended disability leave from my job as a teacher and my income is reduced. I'm also a single parent who is usually stretched rather thin financially.
Your support means the world to Tula because she understands that opportunities like this are rare. She is determined to apply herself 100% and to excel in every class as a way of showing her appreciation to everyone who supports her dance journey to New York City. I will be eternally grateful to all who contribute funds and help me continue to support my daughter.
