Sedibeng College Library Project!

We are building libraries at each of Sedibeng College's four campuses in the Vaal region of South Africa. We would love your help!

We are working as Fulbright English Teaching Assistants at Sedibeng College for Further Education and Training in Gauteng, South Africa. The College is part of a new initiative by the South African Department of Education to help diminish the country's soaring unemployment rates by providing vocational training to students who do not qualify for university. The College has four campuses in the Vaal region and services over 8,000 students. The majority of students range from 17-24, while there are some older learners, as well. None of the Campuses have functional libraries. A couple simply have a small collection of vocational textbooks. We want to develop our students' English literacy (an absolutely vital skill for any job in South Africa) by providing them with books and magazines to read. Through this project, we hope to foster a love of reading amongst our students, as well as a sense of pride in their new resourses! The large majority of our students come from townships throughout the region. Many do not have books or access to internet at home, so their opportunities to increase their knowledge are limited to their time in school. Please help us help our students by donating to our project!!
