Scouting in Europe

Scouts BSA Troop 586 high adventure group will be going to Kandersteg, Switzerland in 2020. My son and I have the great opportunity to join this group as leaders and as participants. Kandersteg International Scout Centre,  founded by Lord Baden-Powell in 1923, is the World Centre of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement. This experience is an opportunity to be involved in a  world Jamboree feeling of brotherhood, peace and international friendship within the Scouting organization. It will be the epitome of scouting for many of our youth.

As the Committee Chair for Troop 586 much of my time is spent volunteering to organize the committee members to see that all functions are delegated, ensure that we have adequate trained adult leadership, advise our Scoutmasters on policies relating to BSA, carry out policies and regulations set forth by the BSA, support leaders in carrying out our program, along with overseeing the finances, equipment, and disciplinary issues. This is a full-time job that doesn't allow for a lot of fundraising time for our family of Scouters while working and going to school.

The plan for this trip is to fly into Rome, Italy and spend three days seeing the sights, followed by a week in Kandersteg Camp completing some high adventure activities including Hiking, Canyoning, River Rafting, Alpine sleds, and Adventure Park. After Kandersteg, we will take the train to London and spend three days seeing the sights including staying in Lord Baden Powell's hostel for Scouts.

This is my first opportunity to attend a High Adventure program out of our area and I hope to be able to raise the funds necessary to make this trip a success. The predicted cost for this trip is $3500 per person and the funds raised will help pay for the following:

* Our flight to Europe
* Train fees while traveling from Rome to Switzerland, and London.
*  Camp fees at Kandersteg International Scout Centre
* High Adventure trips while at Kandersteg
* Hostels while traveling through Rome and London
* Meals and travel expenses while in Rome and London
* Luggage specific for this event
* Required clothing for this event

From what I have been told this is quite a value for 14 days in Europe. My son and i will be working very hard to fundraise for the both of us for this trip. We are hoping that this gofundme account will help pay for at least half this trip while other local fundraising activities will help pay for the remainder. The funds for this trip are rapidly approaching, with our flight costs coming as soon as October and our high adventure expenses due as soon as March 1st.

It would mean a great deal to us if you could assist us in making this high adventure program work for our family and our Troop. Any amount you could afford no matter how small could make a difference in making this trip a success while allowing me to assist in helping our scouts in our programming and support the leaders within our troop.
