There are more than 1 million men, women and children from Syria living as refugees in Lebanon, a country whose own population is only 4 million.
The conflict in Syria has been ongoing for more than three years, and families have been living suspended in limbo, placing a heavy burden on Lebanese communities who already struggled to get by.
In the town of Arsaal, a Lebanese youth group has fundraised together to create a school for the Syrian children and youth living in their community, and they rely on volunteer teachers - both Syrian and Lebanese - to run daily classes.
This small and humble facility planned to support 500 children is now seeing more than 800 per day: 550 primary students and 250 middle school, with 33 volunteer teachers.
But classes are run without basic supplies. Kids are sitting on the floor and standing because there aren't enough tables and chairs.
Help us to help them and support this campaign. We will be buying basic supplies for one school year:
- Pencils, rulers, compasses, geometry sets, pens, white board, sharpeners, school bags, highlighters, erasers and exercise books for 800 kids - total £8,000.
If they can dream, they would also add to that wish list:
- £200/month for transportation for the girls (apparently many live far away - the boys can manage to get there on motorscooters, but transportation is an issue for the girls) - total £2,000 for the academic year.
Any additional funds raised above this goal will be to provide small stipends of £20 per month to the volunteer teachers.
Your generosity and support is much appreciated. No one is taking any sort of commission or overhead or expense on your contribution. Every penny goes to helping these kids protect their future!
