We all "know" how many dogs are abused, neglected and starved every single day. Most of us choose to block out the horrific reality because there is simply no way to save them all... But then one of these angels crosses your path and you're able to save her...
Meet Madeline aka "shorty maddie". This sweet soul has been suffering in silence for about a year and a half. She has been confined to a BOX that was pinned up against the side of her owners home so she couldn't escape, injured and starving.
Someome heard her whimpering and was able to make contact with the owners mother, who agreed to surrender her if we did not involve the police.
So we kept our end of the deal and did not involve the police knowing she needed immediate medical care.
She was brought to emergency vet last night where she remains today. The vets would have ultimately done surgery to attempt to keep her one eye, in which she has corneal descemetocele, which we believe is from a trauma that went untreated for a very long time, but she is in such bad shape the vets do not think her frail little body could withstand anesthesia.
She will remain at the vet to gain enough strength to undergo a series of two to three surgeries in attemp to save her eye.
The estimate at this time is $1600 to cover her care. I know it is the holidays and everyone is spread thin, but even ONE DOLLAR would make all the difference in sweet Maddy's new start to a beautiful life.
