Our music needs archiving and here's why. In 2010 I began documenting bands from across Charlotte, NC. During my experiences I recorded shows and interviews with AMAZING bands like The Bouncing Souls, Big D and The Kids Table, The Apers, NOFX, The Casualties, The Independents, The Swinging Utters, The Barbwire Dolls, Helmet, ANTiSEEN, Fishbone,The Business, The Ataris, Agent Orange, The Misfits, JuiceHeaD, Steve Albini, Old Man Markley, The Scotch Bonnets with H.R. of the Bad Brains, Rubrics, and Less Than Jake. But I didn't stop with just national acts I also recorded shows with now defunct local bands Sister Fister, 2013 Wolves, The Lester Bangs, Bracing For Impact, Planet Piss, and bands that don't play together much such as Rapegoat, Ma'am, The Beatdowns and just hours and hours of shows.

In 2012 my collection of footage and pictures grew to nearly 2 terabytes of data. I mean we are literally talking about hours and hours of footage here so I put it all on a MyBook Essentials 2 TB external drive and things were good. For a while:. But in July of 2013 I noticed my drive was beginning to malfunction and in a manner of days it was completely un-useable.

A few weeks ago I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet and have this drive looked at and learned it was some software malfunction keeping the drive from communicating with the computer and was given good news and bad. The good news was all my data was safe and  readily accessible, the bad news: for them to recover all of my data would cost me nearly $1500 in man hours and technological resources. Now this is a deal actually for the amount of data we are talking about here, remember hours and hours of video footage and photos. So I feel like I've reached a point in my career here in Charlotte where I am comfortable in asking for help. I know I have created enough exposure for my business and have cultivated enough friends who would like to see these images and video (some of which have NEVER seen the light of day since they were first performed) to create a Go Fund Me Account. March 15 is the date I would like to be able to pay the company who has my drive and receive all my footage so that's the dates goal. I've also set the amount for $2100 so I can afford to pay any fees associated with Go Fund Me's transactions and still have enough money to just invvest back into managing this archival footage. So that's my story thank you for sharing in this experience with me.
