Save the Kink Fund

My name is Ken, and I have a cat named Kink. I've had her since the day she was born, and she has owned me for just as long. She never leaves my side, and rides on my shoulders when I'm at home. Today, December 17th, I found out kink has cancer, a Fibrosarcoma caused by a rabies vaccination. I believe life, and especially her life, is important and refuse to give up on her. We found the tumor fairly early, but the surgery is $1500 to remove the tumor (50% success chance), and then 4 weeks later she will have to go in for three weeks of radiation treatments that will cost $4500 (Ups success to 85%). I am not a man that asks for help, and I always make what I have work, but cancer is very time sensitive and I need to do everything i can very quickly. This is not an all or nothing campaign, so anything you give will go towards her treatment. I am selling everything I own other than my bed and couch for her as well as giving plasma twice a week (On top of working overtime at my job as much as possible), but it won't be enough. She is 6 years old and has so much joy and life left in her that it crushes me to think that could all fade away, especially when she is still so playful and energetic.

We've learned a LOT about Kink's condition, and that there are two additional treatments in testing. One is an anti-cancer drug called Gleevec specifically designed to fight these type of tumors (This drug, so far upon research, is very expensive (roughly $900 a month). I won't bother you with the clinical studies--because they are painful to read in general--but they are hopeful. This is a chemotherapy, and although chemo only adds about a 10% margin of success normally, there is higher hope for this one with no toxic effects on cats. The other additional treatment is a vaccine they have been testing for Fibrosarcoma since April of 2012. It is given after the surgery to prevent the regrowth of tumors. This vaccine is sadly only available on the east coast, as well as Arizona (The original areas of the outbreaks in Feline Vaccine-Associated Sarcomas, aka VAS). We're checking into things with WSU, and may be having them do the surgery as well as radiation treatment now instead of them having to work 2 hours apart and not have proper communication. They also have a specialist that deals in small animal cancer and may have other options for us.

Thank you for any help, and never give up hope!
