Save Our House

For those of you who know me well - you know that it took every ounce of me to let go of my pride and ask for help. I realize that I have been MIA lately - we have gone through a lot recently. We are asking for any bit of help that we can get.

About a year ago, I started having incredible stomach pains. The pains were so bad that some days I would just double over and was unable to walk. I went to the ER 3 times in 3 months and over 15 doctors visits. I have had to endure 2 CAT-scans, 5 sonograms, 1 surgery, 1 procedure I will not mention and multiple other tests. Nothing came from all of these tests and procedures other than an extremely large medical bill. Due to my condition and testing, I had to take a leave of absence from work. In the middle of all of my chaos, Michael was laid off from his job. I had no other choice but to put aside trying to figure out what was going on with me medically and go back to work.

To make matters worse, our house has shifted causing a gas pipe to break. We went through this winter without heat in the house except for a few space heaters. The busted pipe has also left us without hot water or a stove/oven to cook on. I will say that we do have a guest house where Michael's mom lives and she does have hot water and a stove - so we weren't completely miserable.

Michael has inherited our house and it is an old house. The electrical needs to be re-done as well. We have to watch what we plug into where because breakers flip all the time. It worries me that this will one day cause a fire or something of the sort. Adding to the problems that the house consists of, we found out that taxes are still owed on the house. The constable stopped by about a week ago and we are on the verge of losing our house.

I have tried so hard to save money to get everything taken care of - but regular monthly bills take the majority of my paycheck. And Michael has had no luck in finding a steady job. He has been fortunate enough to work with a friend getting houses make-ready. We are truly grateful that he has had those opportunities but it's not enough to pull us out of the black hole that we keep falling further into.

It seems as if every time we feel that we are finally taking a step forward, something happens and we have to take 10 back. We have gone through what we had left our wedding budget to pay bills (our electric bill ran an average of $600 a month this winter since we had to use space heaters). I have had to pawn my engagement/wedding ring amongst some of our other possessions, including Michael's mom's belongings. I have had to postpone the wedding and I may have to push it back even more.

Our parents have been amazing in trying to help us play catch up, but we are still behind. My parents are taking care of my Grandmother, who has Alzheimer's, and my Grandfather, who recently suffered a stroke. Frankly, their funds are running thin - as well as Michael's parents'.

The stress of everything has put me in a semi depressive state, made me sick to the point of missing a couple days of work and pretty close to hopeless. I have lost about 20 pounds, developed insomnia and feel pretty broken. I would love to be able to keep this house and fix what needs to be fixed - it is our home and we don't want it taken away.

I understand that we are asking for a lot and realize that some can't afford to make a donation. At this point, we can only ask for any assistance you may be able to provide - whether it is a donation, words of wisdom, prayer or even sharing our story with someone who may be able to help.

I will say that we are truly lucky to have one another. Michael and I are best friends, soul mates. He has kept me from completely breaking down and wanting to give up. I have done the same for him. We continue to pray and hope for the best. We want to say "Thank You" to each and every one of you in advance. We are blessed to have so many wonderful, loving people in our lives. Thank You!

Love,

Jessica and Michael
