Hockey is not cheap. Ice time runs, on average, $550 per hour. There are 16 games plus 8 practices per season, which totals 50 hours, or $27,500. That, plus additional sports expenses, brings us to the required $40,000. This is in addition to what the players are raising.
If each of the 25 players is put in a position to raise these funds (in addition to the $2,000 'player fee', as well as expenses for skates, sticks and other equipment), that's an additional $1,600 per player.
However, if 1,150 alumni close the ranks, rally together and reach in our pockets for $35 each, we will have secured another season for these devoted, passionate, talented young players and provided them fulfillment beyond words. We will also have created appreciative alumni looking to 'give back' when they are in our position.
Please donate now:
- $35 to reach goal, as described above
- $275 for half-hour of ice time
- $550 for full-hour of ice time
For anyone interested in donating at the higher levels, you will be recognized and featured in a future FSMAA "Mariner" magazine.
Capt. William Ducey '81, part of the 1981 Hockey Championship Team, and Associate Professor at Maritime College, will be handling the funds raised and presenting the check to the College.
