Support Chatham's VFW Post

Donation protected
The Brown-James-Buck Memorial Association, VFW Post 8607, was named in memory of three heroic servicemen from Chatham,  Massachusetts: PFC Robert S. Brown, U.S. Army; Tech/Sgt. Roland W. James, U.S. Army; and PFC Robert F. Buck, 3rd Marine Division. These three men made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during World War II. Our VFW Post proudly bears their names.

For over 70 years,  VFW Post 8607, located at 150 George Ryder Road in Chatham, has 'been a refuge for local veterans as well as an important community resource, providing affordable space for weddings, funerals and community dinners' (Cape Cod Chronicle, August 2016).

VFW Post 8607 has hosted a variety of local community events, including Little League games, Family Fun days, family parties, dances, memorial services, Toys for Tots fundraisers, and various food drives.  We organize and participate in a variety of patriotic programs that honor the servicemen and women in the local area, including Cape Cod Care 4 The Troops and assisting veterans with filling out the necessary paperwork to get their VA benefits.

Our Post also provides continuous support and space for various Chatham and Harwich Boys and Girl Scouts initiatives. We provide needs based scholarships for students in the community pursuing higher education and enlistment bonuses for young men and women entering the military.

Members of the Chatham community can rent the hall or partake in our various community dinners and activities. All of the proceeds go to keeping the Post's doors open so that we can continue in our mission to help veterans in the community.

Post 8607 recently raised funds through our community's generous support to do some much needed renovations to our building. This past spring, we had a new roof and new siding installed, making the Post a more attractive venue for community events and gatherings.

However, in order to continue operating, we have now been mandated by the Town of Chatham to install a new sewerage system that will tie into the town's system.  The deadline for complying with this sewerage mandate is October 2018.

In addition, improvements need to be made to the existing facility including the installation of handicap accessible toilets and an  elevator in order to better serve those with disabilities in our community. Our facility's kitchen and dining area  also need updating so that we can better serve the needs of our growing community well into the future.

The Post is looking to raise approximately $150,000 - $200,000 to cover  the costs of the installation of the sewerage system and for these other improvements to our aging facility.

Post 8607 is a vital part of the Chatham community that wishes to continue to serve the veteran community and the local residents  here in Chatham. With your help, we can keep our Post operating.

We are asking for your support in our endeavor. Please help us by making a donation to the Brown-James-Buck Memorial Association, VFW Post 8607 Fund. Donations are fully tax deductible and 100% of donations go to the VFW facility. Please support our efforts and be among the generous patriots that support your local veterans.
