OFTALMEDIC - the neighbourbood Optician needs YOU!

Hi everyone.

I'm Paulo, the owner of an optician store in Portugal, on the outskirts of Lisbon.

It's been 21 years since OFTALMEDIC opened its doors in the neighbourhood.

Looking back, I'd say that no one could've imagined what these past years would be like and how small businesses would be affected worldwide.

In our country, massive shopping malls have popped up all around; there was the "Troika" intervention when the country almost went bankrupt; Covid...and now the war in Europe.

Besides the ever-growing number of chain stores, unscrupulous competitors have bought into small local businesses, keeping the store's original name so that the public isn't aware of the takeover. As a result, shops that've been around for so long are throwing in the towel.

Despite all, OFTALMEDIC stands independent, with excellent social media ratings that account for many that have come to us seeking medical advice and appropriate orientation regarding lens and eyewear solutions for difficult ophthalmic situations.

Were it not for our face-to-face assistance and lab work, nowadays, replaced by online appointments and remote workshops by most opticians, OFTALMEDIC would have died long ago.

You can't imagine how it feels to see a child's smile or an elderly's tears of joy when their glasses return the eyesight they'd been living without for so very long.

For us, every patient is unique, and every prescription has a world of possibilities waiting to be interpreted in the best possible manner to potentiate the medical expectation.

But, undoubtedly, since Covid struck, things have become much harder.

Without government aid, the option was to endure and not go to the banks.

This line of action has kept us clean of debt but left us without the financial ability to secure the future.

After two decades, we know it's time the store was refurbished and prepared for the professional and honest work carried out in the community we serve; for more years to come, so all in need of eye care may continue to count on our commitment.

The refurbishment is essential if we're to conquer new clients and bring back those who have wandered off to modern-looking locations.

Without this necessary change, it's probably just a question of time till we succumb.

I'm aware that there are indeed many other causes and that, in some cases, we're talking about terribly complicated situations and people very much in need.

But, anyway, here I am, asking for your support in saving OFTALMEDIC.

With your help, we'll keep this small neighbourhood practice active and vibrant.

OFTALMEDIC will prove that surviving in today's harsh business world is possible, even amongst the most prominent players.
