Dear Neighbors and Friends,
As chair of the Hepburn Avenue Homeowner Association (HAHA) Tree Committee, I ask for your help.
Years of drought and City neglect caused our Magnolias severe distress and made them susceptible to insect attack. Funding provided by generous neighbors allowed us to consult with two independent experts who confirmed the cause for the blight, recommended best treatment options and warned that we will lose our precious trees if the infestation is not treated now.
Our group and many neighbors have asked the City repeatedly to act. Regrettably, our City will only respond to tree removal requests and refuses to protect our heritage trees.
We organized expert treatment of 14 mature Magnolia street trees by the end of this March.
HAHA's membership generously agreed to match up to $1,500 of your donations.
Please help to protect our community's beauty and pride!
Treatment plan:
We are following the treatment recommendation as received from Nick Araya, Board Certified Master Arborist with TreeCare LA, State Lic #994717.
Nick personaly surveyed our street trees from MLK Blvd to Rodeo and identified the 14 trees that need treatment.
TreeCare LA does not perform the recommended professional trunk injection with a systemic insecticide. We obtained quotes from several independent contractors and pre-scheduled treatment at the end of March with the most qualified independent contractor.
LA Citie's Urban Forestry Division of Street Services was informed of our plan and gave permission to treat these City trees.
I'll forward all funds received for this campaign to Chris Chambles, Treasurer of Hepburn Avenue Homeowners Association, who will match funding up to $1,500 with HAHA membership funds. HAHA will hire the selected contractor to perform treatment as scheduled. Unused funds will remain with HAHA to be used on future street tree protection efforts.
I'll provide updates to this campaign and answer questions as we are closing in on our goal.
