Carly's Emergency Vetting

Dachshund Rescue and Pet Services foster puppy Carly was saved, along with Princess, from being surrendered to a high kill shelter by their owner who had no other choice but to give them up due to eviction. Carly is a 10 month old shih tzu and less than 24 hours after coming to us it was clear she had become very sick. She had severe liquidy diarrhea (all on the pee pads too, despite how awful she felt!), and did not eat from Saturday March 30th until she had a feeding tube out in her esophagus on Thursday April 3rd. She has an ulcerated tongue, her B UN and creatine levels were way off and have returned to normal, but her tongue is still ulcerated and the roof of her moth is now, for lack of a better explanation, shedding off. She saw our regular vet on the evening of March 31st then spent the day April 2, 2014 for observation, testing and IV fluids. We were able to take her home with instructions to bring her back the next day, but Anne brought her to the emergency vet, Pieper Memorial, shortly after leaving our regular vet due to their specialty, and her concern for Carly. Carly has now been at Pieper since the evening of April 2nd and is still in very bad shape. The updated estimate for her care is, as of today (4/7) around $6,000. 4/12 update: Carly's total as of yesterday is $3,210.08 so I am dropping the total overall goal as she will (hopefully) not require surgery at this point. She will however continue to have re-checks and other outpatient care for awhile.
PLEASE share this link and help us help this sweet girl. If you do not want to donate to her care online, but would like to help a check payable to DRPS (stands for Dachshund Rescue and Pet Services) can be mailed to us at PO Box 784 Killingworth, CT 06419
