Saryn's 2018 Portugal Rugby Tour

My daughter, Saryn Laserna has never showed so much dedication and passion for anything until she started playing the sport of Rugby. I remember when she first came up to me and asked me if she could try out for the LCC Lady Mavs Rugby Team. I was shocked and a bit hesitant because it is a full contact sport that has no padding or protection, just a mouthguard. I saw how much she wanted to, and I was happy that she considered a sport in high school, so I couldn't deny her that opportunity. Rugby has provided the means for her to become more engaged in her education by encouraging her to increase her academic performance and has helped provide her with life skills that is only taught through sports.
After the 2016-2017 LCCHS Rugby season was over, The Coastal Dragons provided her with more playtime over the summer of 2017. During that journey, she was presented with the opportunity to play for the Institute of Rugby's U18 Girls Tour – 2017 North American Invitational 7s (NAI7s) in Utah on August 4th-5th, 2017. The Institute of Rugby's U18 team placed 3rd overall at the 2017 North American Invitational 7s Tournament. They were the first IOR team to take 3rd at the NAI7s.

Rugby builds positive quality characteristic traits in our children. Rugby promotes respect and a sense of family with their team members, and with players of the opposing teams. The camaraderie that is felt in this sport is like no other and it transcends into their own household in such a positive way.
On Sunday, December 10th, Saryn went to try outs and that evening found out that she was one of the 25 girls selected to participate for The Institute of Rugby 's U19 Girls Tour - 2018 Portugal 15s. We are extremely proud of her!!!! With the help of donations made by our family, friends, the community, our employers and local businesses, let's come together to help send Saryn to Lisbon Portugal to play in this once in a lifetime opportunity. We cannot do this without your help. Please help keep her relentless passion for Rugby ALIVE!!!!! Every donation brings her closer and closer to Lisbon Portugal.
