Help me learn to build earthships!

Dearest friends,

many of you know, I was supposed to spend this summer in Iran with my family after not having seen them for four years. But after the 2016 election I had to change my plans and stay put here because of the travel ban, a.k.a. Muslim ban. So instead of crying into my pillow back in NYC I decided to come to Taos, New Mexico and learn how to build sustainable off-grid houses out of garbage.

This genius concept, called Earthship, has been developing for the past five decades by Mike Reynolds and his dedicated crew. During the month of June, both in classes taught by experienced Earthship builders and while working on various buildings at different stages I learned how this type of off-grid house could address all of our needs such as water, energy, food, sewage treatment, heating & cooling while using recycled material.

I've stayed on in Taos in July to continue to work as an intern and deepen my understanding of this technology. I believe sustainable houses in general, and Earthships in particular, are an empowering and realistic solution to divest from capitalism and from paying utility bills to the Koch brothers day after day.

The next step for me to become a certified Earthship builder is to start my independent study when I get back to New York. And I’m happy to say that all those years of studying heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics are finally going to blossom into a project that saves life and gives no fucks about saving the economy. And once I participate in a build from start to finish I can pratically build an Earthship for public or private usage.

If this is something that itches your curious bone, as in you have a project that could use an off-grid structure like an Earthship, and/or believe it’s important that our communities have access to this type of knowledge or simply feel like giving me a birthday/graduation gift, donate however much you can to this campaign and I'll help you build your own Earthship or find a way to retrofit your existing housing situation incorporating the same ideas.
