Sami's Medical Volunteer Trip to India!

I have been blessed with food, shelter, health care, and education. I think it is my responsiblity to use these resources and opportunities I have to help others. For over a year, I felt pulled to help in India specifically.
Rather than letting this feeling go to the way side, I decided it was time to take action. I've recently been accepted to be a member of International Volunteer Headquater 's Medical Team to Dharamsala, India. I could not be more excited about this opportunity. I will take this trip of a lifetime during the summer of 2014.
I am excited to be able to use what all the skills and knowledge I have gained during my time in Loyola's nursing program to help those who are in desperate need of it. I also look forward to meeting others who are passionate about helping others as well. This trip will be an amazing experience that will undoubtedly expand my horizons, improve my skills, and change me.
Dharamsala is a city in Northern India. It is actually home to the Dahli Lama! I will be spending my time in this beautiful city assisting nurses and doctors with their routine jobs, such as taking height, weight and blood pressure measurements of the patients. I will also be able to provide advice regarding nutrition, health, and sanitation to the patients of the hospital and mobile clinic. I am excited that I will be living in a host family! I can't wait to be immersed in Indian culture.
