*CALL OUT FOR FUNDRAISING HELP*
This is Sambaxé 's 9th year as a contingent in the annual SF Carnaval Parade. Over the last 2 years the parade has become less and less supported by the city and has become smaller and smaller. San Francisco, in particular the mission neighborhood, has been experiencing rapid change and gentrification and much of the cultural arts like music and dance and Carnaval that have always made the mission so vibrant, are now being devalued and getting pushed out. We are calling out to get your support to help keep the cultural tradition of Carnaval alive.
Every year including this year we work with public high school students from the SF non-profit, Out of Site Youth Arts Center, and they either design and help to build the float, drum as a member of the bateria or dance as one of the dancers in the contingent. "¨"¨
We spend 6 months practicing and preparing for the Carnaval Parade. It is a chance for all the dancers and drummers to shine and show off what they have been working so hard at throughout the year. It is also a time to celebrate the Latin American culture and tradition of Carnaval - a pre-lenten celebration of letting go of one's inhibitions and celebrating life."¨It is one of the only events that crosses all boundaries, social, economic, ethnic, and generational ones. All in the spirit of CARNAVAL!"¨"¨"¨"¨We are putting a call out to all family, friends, colleagues and supporters to help us fundraise. We need to raise $5000 in order to produce our contingent, float and sound system."¨No donation amount is too small. Anything and everything helps.
**We are so excited thatvthis year the company Rodan & Fields has agreed to be a matching donor. They will match all the funds that we raise through this campaign!
