<div>He is trying to raise $20,000 for a medically safe emergency all-aluminum sleeping trailer so he can get out of 115-degree heat, winter cold, strong desert winds, rain leaks, and mold risk. This first goal would give him a safe place to sleep and begin stabilizing. The long-term goal is to help James survive, stabilize, and pursue recovery. After the emergency trailer is built, the goal is to raise $100,000 to go towards medical treatment, specialist care, detoxification support, living expenses, and practical improvements to the shelter as we learn what his body can actually tolerate.

<div>James is 35 years old. He is a kind, creative, adventurous, deeply thoughtful person who has always tried to live life with meaning. Before he got sick, he traveled the world, built businesses, made music, practiced yoga and meditation, and lived an intentional life. He loved to sing, explore, work, create, and connect with people.

<div>James was not someone who wanted a small life. He had big dreams to help the world. He had energy. He had a deep love for life.
</div>
<div>But that all changed.
</div>

<div><strong>In July of 2020, James was exposed to black mold. Since then, his life has never been the same.</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>James developed severe environmental illness, often called Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, along with mold-related illness. He now has severe reactions to things most people barely notice. Things like fragrances, laundry detergent, perfume, deodorant, cleaning products, car fumes, many foods, and even many building materials.

</div>
<div><strong>In 2021 he developed long COVID, and his illness began to get progressively worse. By 2023 he was so sick that most days he could barely get out of bed.</strong>

<div>This illness has taken so much from him. It did not just make James “sensitive.” It reshaped almost every part of his life. He lost the ability to travel freely. He lost the ability to work the way he wanted to. He lost the ease of being indoors, visiting friends, riding in cars, going into normal buildings, or participating in the world without constantly calculating whether the air, materials, smells, or environment might make him sick.

<div>Many normal places and social situations became intolerable for him, and he has been very isolated at times. What is simple for most people has become very difficult.

<div><strong>He is in pain every day. </strong>He deals with widespread pain all over the body, fatigue, brain fog, inflammation, food reactions, chemical reactions, and crashes that can make normal functioning very difficult.

<div><strong>The hardest part is that James cannot safely live in most indoor spaces.</strong> A room can look clean and normal to everyone else, but still make him sicker by the hour. Most homes, apartments, RVs, and buildings can contain mold, fragrance residue, cleaning chemicals, synthetic materials, poor ventilation, or building materials that offgas.

<div><strong>Since April 2024, James has been living outside in a tent in the Arizona desert.</strong> Being outside in dry, fresh air has helped him tolerate life better than many indoor spaces, but the elements have also taken a toll on him.

<div>He is exposed to Arizona desert temperatures that can reach 115 degrees in the summer and drop as low as 20 degrees in the winter. He deals with heat, cold, dust storms, rain, leaks, mold risk, and strong wind.

<div>The wind has been surprisingly challenging. His shelter rips, shifts, breaks down, and wears out. He is constantly repairing it. When rain gets in, mold can grow.

<div>This is not camping. This is not a lifestyle choice. This is what James has had to do for survival because normal indoor housing keeps making him sick. As tough as living outside is, it has been a lot better than living in an apartment with stale air that makes him sick.

<div><strong>James needs a medically safe home. </strong>Not a luxury home. Not a fancy home. He needs a small, clean, chemically inert, well-ventilated, temperature-controlled space where he can breathe fresh air, sleep safely, stay out of dangerous heat and cold, and finally begin to stabilize.

<div>He has been unable to fully heal while his body is fighting unsafe air, extreme temperatures, mold, fumes, and the constant stress of outdoor survival. Before he can focus on treatment, work, or rebuilding his life, he needs a place where his body can stop being under attack.

<div><strong>What we are raising money for</strong>

<div>We are raising money to help James build a medically safe home in two stages.

<div>The first and most urgent goal is to raise $20,000 to build a medically safe emergency sleeping trailer. This would be a small, clean, chemically inert, temperature-controlled space where James can finally get out of the tent, sleep safely, breathe cleaner air, and begin stabilizing.

<div>After that first milestone, additional funds will go toward the next most important recovery needs. That may include medical evaluation, specialist care, treatment, detoxification support, living expenses, and practical improvements to the trailer or shelter setup as we learn what James can actually tolerate.

<div>An all-aluminum cargo trailer is the most practical first step because it can provide a simple, durable, mold-resistant, chemically inert shell that can be modified with the systems James needs.

Some people with MCS are able to make meaningful improvements, and some recover significantly, but there is no simple, guaranteed, one-size-fits-all path. Conventional medicine often has limited treatment options for severe environmental illness, and many patients are left trying to piece together care on their own.

<div>For James, the next step after safe shelter is to work with a functional medicine doctor, naturopathic doctor, environmental medicine provider, or other qualified practitioner who understands complex chronic illness, mold-related illness, chemical sensitivity, immune dysfunction, inflammation, detoxification, and nervous system regulation.

<div>But no amount of determination can make a tent safe in extreme heat, freezing cold, rain, wind, and mold.
