St Maarten / St Martin / SXM has been devistated by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Jose
I am Tanyse MacLeod from Ottawa Ontario Canada - a Realtor with Royal Lepage Performance - I help people like you buy and sell homes everyday - imagine how it would feel to have it destroyed by mother nature
I have been travelling to SXM for over 20 years to a family property on the Dutch side of the Island in Simpson Bay - also know as "Grandma's Cottage" - the monies I am hoping to raise is NOT for us but for the local residents and family business owners we have developed life long relationships with and consider family.
Over the last few days I have been contacted by many to see how our place in St Maarten held up after Hurricane Irma...my answer has been "I don't know...but I am more worried about the people of St Maarten. I have a home...they have lost their home; and so much more"
The damage has been monumental as 95% of the infrastructure has been reported destroyed. There is another storm developing in the wake of IRMA and the people are vulnerable. There are no electricity or water services and no radio. They have no shelter, no clean water, limited supplies but they will have Hope
Times will be tough on the Island for many months to years to rebuild - the residents of St Maarten are resilient but they will need help - Tourism sustains life for most of the Island Residents - Coming out of their slow season and just about to peak for High Season it is expected that Tourism will slow to a crawl or to a Stop creating more hardship for the Friendly Island
Also, as the storms surge to hit Mainland American my goal is not to forget them. My goal is to ensure all monies recieved will reach the people of St Maarten and let them know they are loved and supported.
This money is for the people and the relief effort; to live through and rebuild. If everyone gives a little; we can help a lot.
Again....We are NOT using any donated dollars for our own accommodations
