For those of you feeling that heartbreaking and overwhelming sense of helplessness as Stafford faces the most difficult and painful stage of living with this disease…and as Kirsty sits by his side, day after day, accompanying him through the agonising transition… there may be a way to help them.

The ‘Get Stafford Home’ appeal… It is Stafford’s wish to go home for his care once radiotherapy has finished and the right balance has been found with his rigorous regime of pain and anti-nausea meds. This will involve setting up their home appropriately, ensuring he has all the right equipment he needs to be comfortable, and all the right medications to alleviate as much of his suffering as possible, and nursing support to allow family and friends to have quality time with him without the responsibility of all of the caring needs.

Then will come the farewell celebration, that Kirsty wants to do in a BIG way…because what other option is there for such a widely respected, deeply loved, and remarkable human as Stafford?? This will be an epic and memorable celebration of his life… but will need support to do to the scale that feels fitting. So for those desperate to ‘do something’ to help, to support them through all of this… you could consider making a contribution to this appeal, in lieu of flowers, gifts, or food (the fridges and freezers are full, thank you)… this may be a way that you can feel connected, helpful and involved in this difficult time.

He may not get his bucket list experiences of going to Disneyland, travelling to Antarctica and Cuba, or flying in a spitfire, or driving an Aston Martin DB9… but we can at least make the last of his time comfortable at home, surrounded by all of his favourite things… and then give him a send off that’s fit for a legend… our Superhero, Stafford.
