Hello, Everyone!
The past two years at Augustana College have been quite the experience. I've found that the liberal arts education that I am receiving is truly enhancing my perspective on a variety of things. Being given the opportunity to make connections across subjects has both strengthened and broadened my understanding within each discipline, especially Music and Education - my two main studies. This type of education has only encouraged me to learn more, to seek new opportunities for myself and to further my personal growth. After learning how beneficial it was to make connections across subjects, I became intrigued with the idea of making bigger connections across larger boarders...and I found just the way to do it! - Augustana College is giving me the opportunity to study abroad in Paris for the summer of 2014!
First, I will be studying Literature of American Writers, specifically those who have been inspired by the culture of Paris. Briefly studying Literature this past year has shown me so many different perspectives on life. It was fascinating to read and learn in Rock Island, but it will be even more educationally enriching to read and discuss in actual cafés that these writers were inspired by. I am excited to further explore these writings that have sparked so much personal growth within me already.
Second, I will be learning about the history of music, specifically music of Paris. Paris is a superb place to study music as it is a main location where historical musicians and composers have studied. I will be visiting actual cathedrals, monuments, and museums of the musical material I will be studying! Also, I am excited to be experiecing a new outlook on music while overseas, which will help me develop my professional mindset in Music Education when I return to finish my degree.
Overall, I am thrilled to not only learn about two fascinating subjects, but to also be submerged into a different culture, something that I never dreamed would be possible for me.
However, amazing experiences like these do cost money. Before June, I need to raise $3,000 to fund my trip to Paris. Unfortunately, I will not be able to sell that many jeans at Levi's to cover that price!
So family and friends, I am reaching out to you for support: please help me participate in this once in a lifetime opportunity! Any donation will help, and all donations will be going directly to the cost of the trip.
