STRONG NOT SILENT

What

If you are a man between 20 and 49, you’re more likely to die from suicide than from cancer, a road accident or heart disease.
Every week, 84 men in the UK take their own lives.
The majority of these men will not have been diagnosed with any mental health issues.
The majority will have suffered in silence or tried to self-medicate themselves...and failed.
Mental health isn’t talked about enough; men’s mental health even less. Ideas around what it means to be a strong man, shame and stigma associated with mental health issues, and a lack of high profile people speaking out, all contribute to the silence many men suffer in.

Why
Male suicide, and mental health issues more generally, affect all of us equally, and  the Manor family are no exception to this. The men of the coaching team all have friends, family, and sometimes personal experience of being affected and we hold a safe space for any of our members to share issues that are affecting them without fear of judgement.
Manor are taking a stand for the fitness industry, and are spearheading a campaign to show that strong men, are not silent. Our coaches and our community want to share their struggles, and in doing so, hopefully show other men it’s ok to do the same.

The StrongNotSilent Series

The Events

Manor have partnered with clothing brand lululemon to curate a series of events inviting men to train together and talk about issues that affect their daily lives. Four talks, on four subjects, with four different speaker panels, culminating in a night of white collar boxing in the grand surroundings of grade II listed Cecil Sharp House - ‘Fight For Your Manor III’ - on November 15th. These events, with the exception of Fight for Your Manor which will be open to all, are put on for men, by men, in the spirit of breaking down the stigma and judgement about sharing the struggles men face daily.

FIGHT FOR YOUR MANOR 3

Manor London presents Fight for your Manor 3. A white collar boxing event that brings people together from different Manor's to raise money for charity. Each fighter is trained and matched in house. Safety is paramount and we pair people with equal ability/ experience and weight. They have trained hard for 10 weeks and some have never even boxed before, let alone fight. They will find out who they're up against on the night of the fight and not before.

The Clothing

Alongside the panel discussions, Manor have secured a European first with premium clothing brand lululemon: a dedicated clothing collaboration, designed by Manor and produced by lululemon on their patented Metal Vent Tech short sleeve, to be sold in-store with all proceeds going to the male suicide prevention charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

A limited edition, the T-shirt will be available for purchase for £58 in all lululemon stores hosting a StrongNotSilent event from the campaign’s launch on World Mental Health Day, Wednesday 10thOctober.  The item will sit in stores until the final event of the series, Fight For Your Manor, on 15thNovember.  T shirts will be available for pre-order through the Manor website www.mymanor.london and can be collected from lululemon stores once the stock arrives.

The Charity

CALM

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. In the UK men are three times more likely to kill themselves than women. CALM provides a hotline for men 365 days a year to break the silence and reach out for help, as well as running campaigns to change attitudes towards mental health struggles for men, and running bereavement support services for families who have lost loved ones to suicide. All proceeds from the Strong Not Silent campaign, including lululemon garment sales and profits of Fight for Your Manor, will go to support CALM’s efforts.
