Skate Park Of Athens: Phase Two
The Skate Park Of Athens (SPOA) was built in 2005 by GrindLine Skateparks. It was funded with the help of the local skate community and true grassroots fundraising. Featuring a 13 foot deep bowl, a snake run, an over verted clam shell, as well as the most unique transional ramps youll find in the southeast, SPOA is truly a worldclass skateboarding facility. But it does not have any appeal to 50% of skateboarders; there is nothing that resembles street.
And so Phase Two began.
With GoFundMe and general fundraising, we're planning to build a street course that will cater and attract street skaters from all over the country. Phase Two will include a matching 14,000 square feet of concrete: a staircase with handrails and hubbas, inclined boxes, ledges and rails, pump bumps and tiny quarters, in addition to a bank wall that will have a raised ledge.
The money collected from the GoFundMe will go towards mostly towards the build out and the building supplies, but will also go to fundraising event costs and promotions.
While the incentives are slim at the moment, I am ever so grateful to all of those who have read this far and found interest in SPOA. This skatepark means so much to so many people and the second phase is going to allow it to be open to so many other people.
Our grand goal is $80,000 and i'm hoping to raise half of that through GoFundMe.
