The Story...
Sarah Louise May was a vibrant young woman with a passion and reputation for family, academia, particularly literature, and loving the ones closest. Her passion for academia was so strong that Wayne State University awarded her a Bachelors in English, posthumously; this is not a gesture to be taken lightly by a major American university. She prided herself in the connections she made with others, not the money in her pocket or the things in her possession. Her life branched out, touched, and permanently changed all the souls that came into her life. Her passion for making a difference in peoples lives and academia are the driving forces behind this. The scholarship has been organized to turn her tumultuous, oft difficult life and subsequent tragic death into a positive in the world she fought so hard against to change for the better. The people she has effected the most have the chance to pass it on in her memory. Sarah, or as she was better know "SMay", will never be forgotten because there are too many people touched by her presence during her short tenure on this earth to let that happen.
The Nitty Gritty...
The main building point of the scholarship, what we ask of the applicants, is to tell us "How a piece of literature has impacted your life and how the lessons learned translate into your life(citing example from the literature). Sarah loved to read, write, criticize literature, study literature, relate literature to her life, and wanted to teach it to masses.
The goal of $2000 is to award 2 scholarships on behalf of the "Family and Friends", but don't doubt that I will do this for many years, and any funds collected over $2,000 will roll over to next year, or be combined into a 3rd scholarship.
An ultimate "end game" is to develop and endowment in Sarah's name, but that is a long term goal! This page, right now, is short term for the 2014 graduating class of Fraser High School.
Every dime that is donated is going right into the scholarship award, any fee's from the site or school are coming out of my pocket so your $1 is $1 more for a deserving student.
