Hello!

I am the proud director of South Lake High School Soaring Eagle Chorus in Groveland, Florida. Our program has about 135 students, grades 9-12. Our most advanced ensemble, the Mixed Choir, has 29 members, all auditioned and selected based on their high levels of musicianship, academic excellence, and personal intergrity.

This year, these students have been invited to perform in New York City at the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, and Carnegie Hall! We will be traveling in March to put on a wonderful program about peace, comfort, and love.

These students have designed a concert program that is sensitive to many social and political issues currently happening. The text of the pieces talk about peace in a violent world, about tolerance, and about love and respect for others while also comforting those who are hurting. The students are excited to share this beautiful art with people who may be struggling and need the comfort of this beautiful music.

Many of these students have never been outside Central Florida. Our school is in an area with a low socio-economic status, in a district that is elligible for and recieves Title One benefits. However, our music program recieves no funding from the school, district, or state. All expenses must be paid through fundraising, or by the students' themselves.

This trip will cost our program about $35,000, a little over $1200 per student. This cost includes their hotel accomodations, travel, meals, performance costs (accompanist, uniforms, perofrmance permits, etc.) and some New York experiences (Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, 9/11 Memorial, Museum of Natural History, Broadway workshop, Empire State Building).

We are trying to raise $15,000 to cover the cost of our travel and hotel. The students are working on other fundraising projects to make up the rest of the cost, though many students will pay the difference out of pocket. These students are hard workers, determined to make an impact on their world through music.

If you can help us in any way, please do! Even the smallest donation helps!

And come see us sing at Carnegie Hall!
