SHIRLEY & USF ALS Stem Cell Study

Shirley has ALS and is very weak and losing her speech. When she was offered a chance to enter this study, she was told of all the health risks. She signed the consent form immediately. Her words were, "It may not help me but it may help ones with ALS in the future. She is in USF's stem cell study headed up by Dr. Vu. It cost $2,000 per month just for the medication. The only funds for this study come from donations. The participants are given 5 doses of neupogen for 1 week (Mon. thru Fri.) once a month. It regenerates stem cells and in lab tests with rats in some cases, it has regenerated neurons.
