Mizzen Road Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

Donation protected

Our parents, Gary and Rosanne Pelligrino, are waterfront residents of Toms River NJ who were significantly effected by Hurricane Sandy. Relief efforts from FEMA and their insurance provider have not been as beneficial as we hoped.  While many residents in NJ have damage to their beach house or summer home, permanent residents like Gary and Rosanne are left with the catastrophic damage the Hurricane left behind and little to no help from FEMA and insurance to rebuild their home. The same home that has been in our family for 40  years is now left with severe damage as a result of the aftermath from the Hurricane.

While we are grateful that Gary and Rosanne survived this natural disaster and the outpouring of love and support has been tremendous, we are asking for your help easing the burden. With water levels that reached 5 feet inside and surrounding their home the damage is quickly adding up. First Lady of New Jersey Mary Pat Christie said "In the aftermath, I urge you to support our friends, neighbors and communities impacted by the storm. They need our help and need it quickly. Thank you for your generosity. We are strong and resilient. We are proud New Jerseyans." We are asking for donations to help Gary and Rosanne and the other residents of Mizzen Road overcome the damage, get back on their feet and remain Jersey Strong. Please pause and think about how far even a small donation could go when you purchase your next Starbucks coffee or extra drink at the bar, every little bit helps!

There was no immediate estimate of the losses from the storm, but the scope of the damage "” covering more than a half-dozen states "” pointed to billions of dollars. Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey called it "incalculable." With no power and no available shelter, hotel or immediate residence Gary and Rosanne are left to rebuild their home and everything inside while figuring out where they will rest their head at night. As of today, two shelters at Toms River HS North (County Shelter) and HS East (Toms River Shelter) are in operation but are filled to capacity.

Please check out the helicopter footage of the aftermath from Hurricane Sandy at the Jersey Shore from Asbury Park Press as it will help you to fully grasp what the residents of the Jersey Shore are coping with.
