SB613 Stop the Drop Bill

Donation protected
After years of working in Labor & Delivery, I became privy to some of the hidden issues happening behind closed doors in the hospital.

Baby drops / falls increased by by 214.5% in hospitals from 2010 to 2014; (A System-Wide Approach to Prevention of In-Hospital Newborn Falls- Carr, Hester).

Maternity is the ONLY floor in the hospital where a patient is expected to care for another patient.
In fact, a C-Section is the ONLY surgery where a patient whom is still being operated on herself, is expected to care for another patient.

Due to recent COVID isolation regulations, a world-wide baby boom has been predicted which will greatly increase the amount of baby births, resulting in the biggest baby boom since WWII. Hospitals won't have adequate staff or supplies which could result in a significant increase in baby drops/falls. The event of a fall/drop should, could & would be prevented with the required use of a
"Neonate Medical Wrap" as a Standard level of Care  for postpartum recovery in hospitals.

In a world where now baby changing stations are a requirement in public bathrooms.  We strongly believe that requiring hospitals to give exhausted, medicated, numb, recovering patients the right tools to successfully care for their newborn baby, mitigating the risk of drops/falls should be a Standard Level of Care.

We wouldn't drive in our cars without a seatbelt & babies aren't discharged from the hospital without a carseat. So why are hospitals being so negligent with baby safety? 85% of baby falls/drops happen in the first 4 days & 42.7% of falls/drops happen in the first day.( according to  Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority ) Hospitals have a duty to protect your baby. Hospitals should be securing baby to mom from the moment they are born. Why are they risking the one thing they can't replace?

We need your support in order to hire a lobbyist, consultants and other expenses needed to create the STOP THE DROP BILL. We know that together, We can continue to challenge the system & create a safer more secure postpartum recovery for both mom & baby. #STOPTHEDROP
Please give what you can and encourage others to do the same.
