On January 28, 2019, the Glen Ellyn Village Board narrowly approved the Apex400 development proposal despite significant concerns raised by many residents in attendance and those who signed the petition against it. The public engagement portion of this large development on one of the most prominent posts on Main Street was only 3 weeks start to finish!
SAVE MAIN is an organization that supports smart development which promotes economic growth in Glen Ellyn while preserving the unique identity, distinct charm, and historic character of Glen Ellyn. This is key to the Village's brand and long-term prosperity. We oppose the five-story, mixed-use development known as Apex 400 located at the Giesche site at Main Street and Hillside Avenue, which fails to comply with existing Village legal planning requirements. We believe that a development of this scale and style will dominate the skyline and forever diminish the character of our town and will not improve, rather building it will contribute to the current parking problem on Main St.
In addition to the Apex400, there are pressures afoot to dramatically alter our village by removing current height restrictions and paving the way for significant commercialization. Doing so will destroy our district village character—not only will we lose something we all cherish, we’ll lose the very thing that brings people here. Our unique character is our economic driver.
Together, we can do better in building for our future…promoting progress and enriching lives all while preserving the distinct charm and identity of our town. We are excited to work with all of you to help ensure a vibrant and beautiful downtown Glen Ellyn.
