“The goal of Salt is to serve one another in love.” - Claudia Wheeler, Founder.  Solidarity JC is raising funds for our beloved neighbor, Mrs. Claudia! When we partnered with SALT last May, we had no idea how much labor and time went into rescuing food. It was only until Mrs. Claudia shared with us that she had driven her car to the ground, that this became abundantly clear.  Claudia Wheeler is a full-time mother, a teacher by day and has been traveling as far as Brick, NJ daily 7 days a week for food rescue pickups, sometimes multiple times a day after work. For the past 14+ years, Jersey City native, Mrs. Claudia, has rescued and delivered over 130,000 pounds of fruit, vegetables, grains, and other non-food items to dozens of organizations and thousands of families. What initially started as an effort to serve her church has since developed into a 501(c)(3) organization: in March of 2021, Claudia officially opened Salt’s first physical location in JC!. Help us give back to one of the most generous people we know! Let's help ease some of her financial stress so she can continue doing the vital work of feeding our neighbors and sustaining our community.  About SALT: SALT Foundations mission is to collect food from supermarkets, farms, and other providers in New Jersey that would otherwise go to waste and deliver that food to food pantries, the houseless, shelters, churches, food drives and other groups and families who need help the most.
