SAE Memorial Patio

Donation protected
In recognition of the recent loss of some of our dear SAE Arizona Alpha brethren, plans have been drafted to construct an SAE Arizona Alpha Memorial Patio to the left of the entrance to the SAE house.  There will be a placard recognizing the "remembrance of the brothers we've lost" placed on the SAE house below the SAE letters, two round tables with benches, and a  floor of approximately 1000 bricks that can be personalized to recognize a brother that has been lost, a brother that has graduated, a brother that wants to memorialize the year of his being activated as an Arizona Alpha, or a special moment that an Arizona Alpha brother wants to memorialize.  The bricks will cost $250 each, will be a 4" x 8" brick with up to 3 lines of 15 characters per line that will be inscribed using a sandblasting process with a computer guided template cutting equipment and epoxy grout.  The bricks will be sold by the Philanthropy chairman throughout the school year and personalization and installation of the bricks will occur during the summer break.

The memorial patio will be approximately 15 ' x 15'.  The left planter will be modified, the roof overhang support modified and the concrete step enlarged to allow access down into the patio.  A pony wall will be constructed that will run to the left from the planter, then back towards the house, will be white stucco, and have a brick cap, to match the existing planter.

The initial bid to construct the patio came in at over $31,000.  We are confident that with an Alumni member performing the role of Superintendent/Project Lead, the sweat equity of the Active Chapter members, the use of cheaper local mortar and concrete labor, we can get the memorial patio built for $20,000 or less.

As of 18 September 2017, we have 6 weeks until Homecoming 2017.  This is the date that we would like to target to unveil the Arizona Alpha Memorial Patio.  As a part of the unveiling of the patio, we plan to have bricks personalized in memoriam of Dave Brown, John Churchill, John "Morty" Perez, Paul Chait, and Reid Brewer and installed.

We are depending on the generosity of the Arizona Alpha Alumni community to help us fund the Memorial Patio project in time for Homecoming, rather than having to wait until a later time, possibly over Summer 2018.   It will be a proud moment to see this Memorial Patio become reality and to be there to be a part of the unveiling.  Equally momentous will be to unveil it at Homecoming 2017, when we recognize the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Arizona Alpha Chaper of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of Arizona!

Let's Bear Down brothers and make the Memorial Patio happen!
