Ryner's Hypoplastic Left Heart Synd

Donation protected
This is Ryner Al Lang. He was born on July 6, 2016. He was diagnosed with a heart condition early in Mom's pregnancy but when he was born his condition was different than they thought. It ended up being worse than the doctors thought. He was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). In hypoplastic left heart syndrome, the left side of the heart - the part that pumps oxygenated blood to the rest of the body - is underdeveloped. Its two chambers, called the left atrium and the left ventricle, and their valves may be tiny, blocking the flow of oxygenated blood from the lungs.

At 2 days old, on July 8th, he had a procedure called the Norwood Procedure. The Norwood procedure converts the right ventricle into the main ventricle pumping blood to both the lungs and the body. The main pulmonary artery and the aorta are connected and the main pulmonary artery is cut off from the two branching pulmonary arteries that direct blood to each side of the lungs. Instead, a connection called a shunt is placed between the pulmonary arteries and the aorta to supply blood to the lungs.

He had his second open heart surgery (Bi-Lateral Glenn) at 5 and a half months on December 22, 2016. After he recovered, he was sent over to The Children's Institute for feeding issues. They worked on increasing feed volume and introducing baby food! He was finally released to come home on January 27, 2017, at 7 months old!

Today, August 6, 2018, Ryner went in for his 3rd open heart surgery, the Fontan procedure. He is currently in the OR.

Any donations will be used towards the care and support pf Ryner and his family. He has a long road ahead of him.  All donations, prayers, and support are appreciated! Thank you all for love and support!
