The Quick Version...
Once upon a time there was a baby named Ryker... He was born with multiple medical problems... And requires a lot of support to live every day... He is ventilator dependent (meaning he needs respiratory life support 24/7/365) and without it, he would die.
Ryker has been at the Children's Hospital of Colorado for over 362 days now (318 days when this GoFundMe was made). He has never been outside. He has never been in a car. He has never been anywhere that is not within the walls of Children's Hospital Colorado.
We are trying to get Ryker home and give him a life where he can live his life to the fullest. We do not want to keep him confined within the hospital or our home, laying in a bed. We want to bring him home and have him experience his first ray of our Colorado sunshine outside...view a park... view the mountains... And, drive home with us for our first ride home in the car from the hospital... We have been waiting for this experience for 10 + months.
We have many goals for Ryker. We were hopeful that he would come home soon but he is not doing well off of the hospital ventilator and keeps going into respiratory arrest (no oxygen in his body) when he is on the home ventilator. Due to this, we are hopeful and currently awaiting to hear from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where they may do a special surgery to open his rib cage to allow his lungs to grow and develop. If we do hear from this and they accept Ryker into their program, we will be relocating across the country and any funds will be used to keep our family together so we can support Ryker.
If Ryker is not accepted, our hope and Our goal is that we can buy a shuttle/van that is handicap accessible for Ryker's kid kart (a specialized stroller version/wheelchair). Without a shuttle/van that is handicap, Ryker will be limited to being home and require medical transport to the hospital. We are hoping to have enough funds for a handicap vehicle so Ryker can have amazing life experiences that we know Colorado and our world has to offer.
As Ryker is completely ventilator dependent, we know that it is necessary to buy a vehicle that is safe, reliable, and dependable. Any additional funds would go for gas to/from the hospital, lost wages for Ryker's emergencies/care conferences, expenses to keep Ryker safe and help him live his life to the fullest.
