Ryan Aholelei - Assistance Dog

Ryan, from the second day of his life has had a hard time.  He has had many tests, doctor’s appointmentsand hospital visits. He has had a few medical diagnosis’s and a few misdiagnosis’s. Through all of this he has always remained strong and cheeky. Late last year (2017) we received another diagnosis, Ryan has Autism. He is doing many therapies and they are helping with some of his development but we still have very difficult days where Ryan struggles with shops, feeling secure enough to walk when he is uncertain, traffic and rigidness in his routines to name a few.  From day one Ryan has always responded to and loved dogs.  It is unbelievable to see the connection and love he has for them and the confidence and reassurance he receives from them. Ryan's feeding therapist and occupational therapist suggested we look into getting him an autism assistance dog, this is how we discovered Smart Pups Assistance Dogs. We applied to Smart Pups and were very pleased to find we have been accepted. We now need to raise money on behalf of Smart Pups forRyan's future assistance dog to be trained. Unfortunately, Smart Pups cannot start training a dog for Ryan until $20,000 is fundraised. Receiving this Assistance Dog will be life changing for Ryan and our family, as an assistance dog will be able to go with Ryan in public areas just like a guide dog. The assistance dog will help Ryan when he has a meltdown, assist with keeping him safe around traffic and car parks, as well as provide companionship, reassurance and confidence for Ryan to walk when feeling uncomfortable.  The dog will also help relieve Ryan’s stress and anxiety etc and be very well loved by Ryan. Any donation towards our fundraising efforts for an Assistance Dog will be greatly appreciated.
