Hello friends and family!

Very recently a very special dream-like opportunity was presented to me, and I am feeling very moved to make it happen. Many of you know that I am about to graduate from Ithaca College with a BFA in Musical Theatre. While I have been focusing these past few years on my performance training, I am equally as passionate for my future in the Healing Arts.

Ever since watching the movie PATCH ADAMS (played by Robin Williams) when I was little, I knew I wanted my profession to be one that was centered around helping people directly - emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I find that I am consistently drawn to the Arts because of its ability to do this, in my own life especially. Over and over I have felt the soul-healing and transformational power of acting, dance, music, and everything in between. It's a gigantic part of what's made me the person I am today. From here on out, I am dedicated to sharing this with others, all across the world, for the rest of my time.

This special opportunity I mentioned above is one of the first chances I've been given to do this! The REAL Patch Adams (who the movie is based on) is a famous doctor/medical clown/peace activist who runs the Gesundheit! Institute, an organization centered around holistic medical care. This Spring Break, from March 10th-16th, Patch will be taking a small group of people to medical clown in Guatemala City, Guatemala!!!

A description of what the week would entail:

"During the week we will open our hearts into the discovery of improvisational play, communal connectedness, and activism through joy and service. If you've never clowned before, this is your chance to dive into a whole new way of being

Each day, we will explore the dynamics between play and power during visits to hospitals, nursing homes, schools, public parks, and special needs facilities. We will be joined in our visits by members of the Guatemalan clown organization Fabrica de Sonrisas. As we learn about ourselves as humanitarian clowns through workshops in clown technique, we will also form bonds within our small group as well as in the greater Fabricas family."

$2,400 INCLUDES: round-trip flight, week-long program, meals, transportation, and housing.

-----------------------
I am reaching out to friends and family, in hopes that I can attend this trip and return with a blessed wealth of knowledge and experience. This involvement, I'm sure, will be one that informs and contributes to my life work in many ways. Though I will probably never be able to THANK YOU to the extent you deserve, I am filled with appreciation for the support I've already been given these past 21 years. I promise that I will continue to receive in humility so that I may be able to "pay it forward" to many people in this world.

Thank you for all the love.

Humbly,
Ryan MacConnell
