My name is Ian Crilly. I am an honor student and I play rugby for a small town in southern California and am currently working toward a spot on the High School All American team.

I was recentle selected to play for the So Cal Select Side team where I was honored with an all tournament Flanker award and have now been invited to try out for the High School All American rugby team. The try outs are December 26 - 31, 2013 and will be in Tempe, AZ.
I was introduced to Rugby when I was 10 years old while my family and I were living in Abu Dhabi, UAE. I was in love with the sport as soon as I touched the ball. I played with boys from all over the world and I was the only one on the team that had never heard of Rugby before. That year, I played on the Al Ain Amblers U-12 team and was awarded as Most Improved that season. Then, still at age 12, I moved up to play with the U-14s team, and was put against boys 2 years older than me.

I then moved to California and began playing on the U-14 team where I was awarded the most valuable forward award by my peers. Now I play on the Varsity and U-18 teams for Fallbrook, CA. At 14 I am part of the starting line up on the Varsity teams as lock, and am the youngest Varsity High School player in So Cal. I was honored at our banquet when my peers, once again, awarded me with the most valuable forward of the year award. I played in Colorado this summer with the Griffins, the So Cal Select Side Rugby team and was awarded the all tournament flanker award. I also traveled to Alberta, Canada to play with the Griffins team.

I need to raise about $700 for camp fees, and plane tickets to make this happen. This trip is very important because the High School All American Rugby team is my key to playing rugby at the higher level. This team will play in France and Portugal this year and is a stepping stone to the Stars and Stripes team (the USA Jr professional rugby team) and possibly being noticed by Olympic coaches.

Unfortunately, rugby is mostly a club sport and therefore is funded 100% out-of-pocket by the players and their families. My family has had some major struggles over the last 3 years. With our move back to the United States, my parents were out of work for a year and then my dad was diagnosed with Graves Disease. I have started baby sitting and doing random chores in our neighborhood to earn extra money to help pay for Rugby. Things are getting better for us, but there is no way we can afford the extra money it will take for the fees and travel expenses incurred.

Rugby is my life. Every decision I make is rooted in how it will affect my Rugby career, especially in the classroom. I am a Junior and currently have a 4.3 GPA and received the Rugby Club Presidents Honor Roll award for my team. This sport has motivated me to do my best in everything I do, whether be on the field, in the classroom, or at home.

Every little bit helps and I will forever be grateful to everyone that contributes. Any money over my goal will be saved to help pay for any other trips, tournaments, team dues, etc.

If you have any questions about me, my family or rugby, please send a message.

Thank you for your time and donations,
Ian
