Ronald hasn't ever had an easy life. Since birth he has had Hydrocephalus which is a build-up of fluid in the cavities deep within the brain. At two years old he was also diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis which is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue. It was at this age of two that he had 12 fusions done on his spine, and his first shunt surgery to relieve the fluid pressure inside of his brain for his survival. Over the years he has faced multiple comas, infections, complications and diagnosed with
scoliosis. Multiple shunt revisions to relieve the pressure in his brain with now, a tube that runs from the brain down into the atrium of his heart which pumps the excess spinal fluid out. Some hospital stays were in excess of almost seven months.
His mother is the full-time caregiver, while his father is their one income for the household, and they have most definitely felt the strain of medical costs. Currently, Ronald now 36, has just been hospitalized for one of his many reoccurring infections which has led to the discovery of his lungs not being able to function properly; making it hard for him to breathe normally due to the fact that his lungs cannot expand as they should. This has also led to congestive heart failure on the right side of his heart. At this time he is in need of a functioning medical bed for his in-home care, his ongoing physical therapy, his breathing machine as well as the future costs associated to the new diagnosis. Please find it in your hearts to donate what you are able. In today's world, between the rising costs of every day living, and the lack of coverage to the many insurance plans, it is truly a hardship financially to care for a special needs adult with multiple chronic conditions and the reoccurring costs of that care.
