Help Rolf fight against cancer

Donation protected
For anyone who knows Rolf, you know he’s the kind of man that walks into a room and energizes everyone around him with his playful spirit. He has a gift of making you feel better about a hard situation, helping you feel supported in your victory, making you feel heard when you need someone to vent to, and he will graciously offer his expertise and full attention to help you solve a problem. Rolf is always eager and willing to help if he’s able, and has spent countless years of his life as a volunteer, a BMX coach, and has opened his home to those who need a place to stay during turbulent or transitional life circumstances, all while never expecting anything in return. He embodies the spirit of community, and he does so without even realizing it.

And now he needs us.

On October 20th, we received the news that after 5 years of remission from Stage 2a, Rolf’s colon cancer had returned – only this time the prognosis was far more grim. He has been diagnosed with recurrent Stage 4 colorectal cancer with metastases in both his liver and lungs. Survival rates for Stage 4 colorectal cancer are extremely low, but Rolf says that no matter how low the chances are of survival, he is going to beat the odds. He told us, “If there is a small percentage of survival, you can bet I’ll be in that percentage. Even if I get sick as a dog, you better bet I’m going to beat this.”

With our family and community support, we know he's going to overcome this battle. Rolf began chemotherapy on Halloween, and so far the side effects have been minimal and manageable. His latest bloodwork results show improvement in his liver function, which was the most immediate concern upon his diagnosis. He’s gaining strength every day with a healthy new diet, walks around the neighborhood, and light weight lifting.

We don't qualify for any general financial assistance programs and Rolf doesn't have insurance until January 1st. We are continuing to search out all the options available to him, and were recently approved for a manufacturer’s grant to provide him with Avastin, a very expensive but revolutionary immunotherapy drug that works in combination with chemotherapy to inhibit the tumor's ability to grow new blood vessels. While this is a huge blessing, we still need help.

We're asking friends from all corners to help if you're able. Through donations of any amount, to simply spreading the story of this incredible and loving man by sharing this link with your communities.

Our family thanks you!

A note from Rolf:

I would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and prayers over the past month. I am humbled and feel unworthy of the great outpouring of love you have shown me.

I am taking the first steps on a long journey, and I hope all of you will continue this journey with me through your thoughts and prayers. I feel God's hand upon me, and know He will be glorified in the end.

Thank you for your love,
Rolf
